When Broken King was beginning, I had a feeling that it would never be done. Writing was becoming a chore, something that needed to be done, but it wasn't particularly satisfying. I put down the keyboard so many times that I eventually questioned if I wanted to even finish it. It was set aside for the longest time with no signs it would be picked up again.

And then, one day I looked at it and edited a few lines. The next day I wrote a couple paragraphs. There was no denying I was at the end of my writing "career". The yearly Cyber-Con changed my mind about that. So, I sat and decided I would write. Just one chapter per day and suddenly, things were moving in the right direction.

I hope when you read this, you appreciate the change that writing has brought to my life. I hope I never get tired of it again.

The first mock-ups I did for the cover. I wanted Vespias naturally, but I also wanted another person on the cover to represent "the Broken King'. My first impulse was an older man

along with the sea. I returned to Shutterstock where I found my Vespias and looked at what they had to offer.

My second try was with the Spartan-looking soldier. I liked the deep red color of the cape and decided to substitute water with fire, almost as if the king were in hell.

I also went with a new pose for Vespias. The first cover pose wasn't bad, but it just wasn't speaking to me. The second gave a frame of sorts to the background subject.

In the finished cover, the fire wasn't working so it was scrapped. Instead, I put the king on a double-stacked well. To either side I put walls to create the illusion of a rise in the corner of a demolished building...something that just screamed to me about the end of the first book.

Just a short video to introduce some of the characters in the story. It may seem like a lot, but each of them have been created and handled with the same love I put into Vespias.

On a side note, just to be fair, none of the images are mine. They are done by fantastic artists and as I saw them, they reminded me of the characters in my book.
